An extra $1,000 in starting salary can be worth over $100,000 over the lifetime of your career.

Want to start your career on the right track?  Then use our Grad LaunchPad program.

Often students graduating from undergraduate or graduate schools spend months involved in the wrong job search activities and in using poorly written resumes and cover letters.  When they do land an interview, they often find out that they are ill-prepared for the interview questions and activities that follow.

The Grad LaunchPad  program offers a proven process that takes you through seven steps that will greatly increase your chances of finding a great jobs after graduation.  The skills that you develop as you move through these seven steps will be highly useful to you throughout your life and career.  Read below for additional insight into this program.

STEP 1: Researching Industries & Employers

As you prepare to graduate from college and enter the work world, it is essential to research the job market to maximize your career options.  The first step of Grad LaunchPad  teaches you how to research specific industries and to understand current trends within those industries.  In our interactive program, you will be provided with names of companies in your designated geographic area that might fit your career aspirations.  You'll be guided through a helpful process to determine which companies might be a good fit for your skills, experience, values and career goals.  You will be guided i how to evaluate which companies might be better at promoting employees from within and in developing their employees for future growth.

STEP 2: Resources: Online, Career Fairs and Recruiting Firms

Having the right resources available to you and knowing how to use them is your next step in finding a great job.  You will be guided in the most effective use of online, database and other resources that will support your particular job search.  You will receive coaching and tips in how to get the most information and opportunity from career fairs, as well as which fairs and recruiting events are scheduled in your area.  Further, working with recruiting firms might be an options for you.  Depending on your degree and experience, there are different types of recruiters that you might choose to work with and preferred ways to work with them.  Your Grad LaunchPad  workbook provides advantages and disadvantages for both types of recruiting firms as well as tips on how best to select a firm and how to work with your chosen recruiter.

STEP 3: Marketing Yourself

Stepping out into the job search market and competing with many people with work experience can seem overwhelming as a recent or soon-to-be graduate.  Don't panic!  Grad LaunchPad  is designed to help you identify what you uniquely have to offer and how to "package" and "sell" your skills to potential employers.

STEP 4: Networking & Informational Interviewing

Only some of your job search can be conducted using the internet.  A critical component of job search for new grads is networking.  Referral contacts can provide an introduction to hiring managers within companies and can refer you to others that they know.  Using your Grad LaunchPad  workbook, you will be guided to develop important networking skills as well as how to set yourself from other job seekers by using your unique networking introduction.  You will also be coached in how to conduct effective informational interview to obtain job and industry information and contacts.

STEP 5: Resumes, Cover Letters and Other Correspondence

A well-written, targeted, resume that highlights your strengths and education are key for recent, or soon-to-be, graduates.  Using tools for creating great resumes in the Grad LaunchPad  workbook, we will work to create an effective resume that should catch the attention of hiring managers and human resource professionals.  The workbook provides you with samples of four types of letter that you will need: a cover letter, a thank you letter, letters to recruiters and staffing firms and a networking letter.  You will receive assistance in how to customize these letters to fit your job search.  With these elements of effective correspondence in place, you can feel much more confident about contacting employers.

STEP 6: Winning Interviewing Skills

No need to lose sleep at night worried about whether or not you are prepared for that BIG interview.  Grad LaunchPad  will prepare you for each step of the interview process.  As a former recruiter, I am trained and experienced in standard, behavioral-based, competency-based and panel interviews and have conducted thousands of each.  Using the workbook, we will prepare for commonly asked interview questions.  If you are preparing for a specific job interview, I will also analyze the job description and the company's web site to develop potential questions you might be asked.  I will also assist you in developing three to five in-depth questions you can ask during an interview.  The importance and quality of these questions cannot be overstated.  Remember, you only get ONE chance to make a good first impression.  Grad LaunchPad  will help you give a stronger interview by helping you present yourself in a structured and professional manner.  A manner that will help distinguish you from your competition.

STEP 7: Negotiating a Great Offer

New college grads are often fearful of asking for anything more than what a company initially offers.  Whether you are successful in getting more money or benefits, Grad LaunchPad  will help you understand the psychology and process of negotiating.  You will be provided with proven techniques for successful salary negotiation that you can use in negotiations for years to come.
