Job Networking

It's Not Just What You Know

But Who You Know and Who They Know That Matters

Job Networking "How-Tos" with CareerNexus

Networking is still the number one way that people find jobs.  Even though many jobs are posted online and millions of people flock to the internet when looking for a job, human nature has not changed.  Statistics show that hiring managers are more comfortable hiring someone that they have met prior to the interview process or who has been referred by someone the hiring manager knows.  Because of this single factor, networking is an integral part of any good job search.

What is job, or career, networking?  People have different ideas about it.

One definition of networking is:  "...to interact or engage in informal communication with others for mutual assistance or support;  An extended group of people with similar interests or concerns who interact and remain in informal contact for mutual assistance or support."

You may be uncertain about how to build your networking contacts - what to say, where to meet people and what to ask when talking to these people.  You may have a negative view of networking which makes you uncomfortable about engaging in networking in any form.

With CareerNexus coaching we can help you to network for success.  We are firm believers in the proven power of networking.  CareerNexus provides focused, one-one-one coaching sessions that will help you:

  • Understand how networking actually works
  • Develop the right attitude and vocabulary for networking
  • Develop a strategic approach to networking so that your efforts are targeted
  • Create a strong, personal introduction that you can use when meeting new people
  • Formulate a list of new networking contacts and opportunities, consisting of both individuals and organizations
  • Learn how to contact and meet with those individuals to whom you've been referred
  • Learn how to let networking continue to work for you and your career goals after you  have landed or created that great new job.
